CRDA issued an RFP in search of a venue management firm for both Rentschler Field in East Hartford and the XL Center in downtown Hartford. Global Spectrum, (Global) was awarded the contract in March of 2013, replacing AEG as management of the XL Center and Bushnell Management Services for Rentschler Field.
Global Spectrum is a subsidiary of Comcast-Spectacor. It was created in January of 2000 as the result of an acquisition of Global Facility Services in Tampa, Florida. Global Facilities Services managed seven venues that were obtained by Comcast-Spectacor as part of the acquisition. Global is based in Philadelphia and currently manages over 100 venues in cities worldwide.
As an affiliate of Comcast-Spectacor, Global is able to offer a variety of management services to its clients including sports team promotions, marketing, ticket sales and concessions. These attributes help to create some economies between the operation of the XL Center and Rentschler Field. Global Spectrum’s parent company not only owns venues, but also owns the Philadelphia Flyers, a connection that proved to be valuable in acquiring an AHL team for Hartford. Global was able to bring the Wolf Pack back to Hartford after a brief stint as the Connecticut Whale.
Global is also investing in the XL Center’s continued success with a $2.5 million contribution towards significant core capital improvements to the facility that will keep it stay viable for the next 10 years.
