Teachers Village

After being vacant for 20 years, the Capitol Center office building at 370 Asylum Street across from Bushnell Park in downtown Hartford has been converted into 60 studio, one and two-bedroom apartment units. The 48,000 sq. ft. property has over 6,000 SF of first-floor retail space and is located a block away from Union Station and the XL Center, as well as a short walk to the State Capitol, Legislative Office Building and the Bushnell Performing Arts Center.

RBH Group, the building’s owners and developers out of Newark, New Jersey modeled the redevelopment after one of its successful concept in Newark with affordable rentals aimed at teachers. The concept is that by living amongst each other, teachers could conveniently collaborate when not in the classroom. The apartments opened in the spring of 2019.

The total development cost of the project is $20, 289, 542 of which CRDA is providing a $4 million loan.
