The renovation of the San Juan Center building is part of a major redevelopment strategy targeting the north end of the City of Hartford and known as ‘DoNo’. The property is located a block from Dunkin’ Donuts Park, home of the Hartford Yard Goat.
CRDA retained the Connecticut Main Street Center (CMSC) to evaluate a section of the Main Street corridor from Dunkin’ Donuts stadium to the intersection of Main and High Streets and the entrance to Albany Avenue. The area encompasses empty parcels and 13 historical commercial and residential buildings with rehabilitation potential. The San Juan Center property is the first of what city leaders hope will be the transformation of the neighboring distressed structures along the significant artery.
CRDA teamed with the Hartford Community Loan Fund and the San Juan Center and loaned $265,000 to 1283 Main Street, LLC, the project developers. The $1.3 million renovation brings 10 two-bedroom apartment units and 2,500 square feet of street-level retail to the area.
